Dev Log 1 - Prototype


I guess this doesn't really have to do with the prototype as much, but some of the feedback I received suggested to add some cutscenes to help inform the player of any parts of the lore/backstory they should know, since that's one of the major aspects I plan on highlighting in this game. So I plan on adding some in (both before and after the battle/gameplay), once I've gotten everything a little more fleshed out.

I was tempted to make a paper prototype to help me visualize how all the final UI and sprites would look (since that tends to be my focus, as more of an artist/modeler), but instead I opted for a graybox prototype to get a head start on the player and enemy health systems, as well as their abilities, which will probably need to be tweaked a lot to get a healthy balance by the time I have a finished product.

This prototype helped me test the main mechanics of the game and, as mentioned above, how the health system would work. Obviously there aren't any animations or an environment yet, as this was purely to test out how each of the abilities would affect the opponent. Watching the video play out made me realize I really need to balance out the damage numbers and how much health both characters have, as the fight was over before even 30 seconds went by on the timer, which I'm planning on extending to 60 seconds down the line.
