Dev Log 3 - Beta Build


Since the last milestone, I realized how much time it was really going to take for each animation to be made. And since this week a beta build is due, I decided to not let the lack of animations hold me back from polishing the rest of my game. I will eventually get to finishing all of the animations needed for each ability, but for this week, my focus was mostly on UI and sound to help bulk up the rest of my game and get it on it's way to feeling like a real "game."

The newest additions to this build are a main menu, an abilities menu (where the player can read what every ability does--both their own and the enemy's), a victory and defeat screen, a backing track for both the menu and level, sound effects for each ability, and voice lines from the characters in-game, to try to help immerse the player in the game world.

I'm still planning on adding a cutscene to the beginning at the very least, to help set the player up in terms of what's going on in the lore. I'm also planning on implementing a feature where the player can possibly hover their cursor over the ability key shown on-screen and a small description will pop up. I'm also considering adding in some small text that may come and go that will give the player tips on which of their moves can counter certain moves of the enemy. However, I may not end up implementing that, as it may make the game feel too easy. The only real challenge of the game is to figure out which of your abilities can counter the abilities the enemy just used, so I guess that could be pointless to spoil that for the player.
